~OPAM (One Project A Month) November 2017, Daysail

Running a bit late here with my OPAM but all good......
Been not well with what we think is an allergic cough (together with ear problems) continuously (quite debilitating) especially when I eat but all will be investigated but the suspect is Low Altitude and Air Pressure.......
Cant believe this as I always had a dream to live by the beach but looks like its not meant to be
Time will tell........
Also lots of Meetings for JoJo's NDIS plan.......phew, so much to sort out and organize!!!!!!

This Quilt I called Daysail after the same name as the fabric by Thimbleblossoms
Started New Years Day and completed in time for my Sister's Birthday
Mr Armchair and I thought it would be a bit of fun to go down to the Marina and get some boats into the picture to match Daysail

Pretending it was our Berth lol

It was very windy but lots of fun

Thank you Sweet Peg and Partner in Crime Kris for hosting OPAM again this year!!!

~OPAM (One Project A Month), September 2017

It's been a long time in between posts this year
Lots of commitments here especially with JoJo but at least I managed a finished item this month

This one is by our sweet little GD
She drew this pic above on some white fabric (back last year)
and wanted a cushion made out of it

Back

I even put a label of mine onto the back to finish it and she chose the stitching for it!!!

It all looks pretty cool!!!

Thanks so much to Sweet Peg and Kris for hosting OPAM again this year!!!

~OPAM (One Project A Month) August 2017...'Whanau'

My blog posts have been few and far between this year for various reasons
but I did manage an OPAM for August YAY

A little Farewell Mini Quilt for a Friend going back to New Zealand whilst her Father is not very well
My Friend is a Florist so I thought it apt to take some photos of the Quilt in the Camelia Bush

Little Quilt amongst a Camelia and some Sea Shells

Even though the back doesn't exactly match the front I thought it depicted our coastal area very well

'Whanau' is a Maori word for Family which is what this is all about

I even attached the Camelia to the gift and she just loved this

Many thanks to Sweet Peg and her Partner in Crime Kris for hosting OPAM again this year!!!

~Vale - Aunty Ausma~

On 22nd May 2071 this year my Dear Aunt Ausma (Dawn) passed away after some health setbacks....

She was my Beloved Godmother and Aunt
She did beautiful Tapestries......one pictured above
A great Knitter too........she used to knit for David Jones (department store)
She could play Canasta with 2 decks of cards
She was a talented Musician and this talent runs through the Family
She rang me on every Birthday and in between

Her and my Family had a hard time escaping the war having to leave everything behind and start all over again in a new country, Australia, but they did it

I will certainly miss her especially her cheery voice on my Birthday

And as is said in Latvijan
Milestiba nekad nebeidzas
(Love never dies)

Rest In Peace dear Aunt
Atkal redzesinas (until we meet again)

(as she knew me, which is my middle name.  I started using Dzintra when we made our Sea Change)

~Chookshed's Birthday Sewing Party~

Here I am blogging my sewing from Chookyblue's Birthday Party
I did a little stitching from a project at Girls Day in the Country 2016

I did piece a quilt backing which took me all weekend as I was just going to do a plain white one instead but decided against it
After all that cutting and measuring and ironing it finally is finished!!!

Many Happy Returns to The Chookshed and hope there's many, many more Sewing Weekends!!!

Cook Up......Christmas 2016

Phew, this post has been a long time coming!!!
Back to Christmas 2016 saw my Son and I bottle some Dill Cucumbers the Latvijan way

All cut and ready to go

DS was keen to learn how to do this and quickly jammed the cucumbers into the jars

I thought I would start off a Sourdough batter for some Bread
Having learnt that if Dough is proved for a minimum of roughly 12 hours the Gluten in the process breaks right down......Perfect for Gluten Intolerants like me
More information over here
It's all about slowing it right down like in the old days before mass baking where now bread can be made in an hour!!!
I'm all for Slow Food

I gave mine an 18 hour rise

Out of the oven

And tasted sooooo good......and no reaction!!!

From donna hay magazine Issue 90 Dec/Jan 2017
I made an Apple Cider, Mustard and Sage Glaze for our Ham which DS had started outside
Recipe available here

Glaze

The Ham over the Spit

Daughter and Grand Daughter by the Spit

Finally ready and oh so succulent

The meal

Whilst on a roll I made some Mixed Spice and Raspberry Loaves

I used Gluten Free Flour so not as risen as using regular flour

Quite yummy too as I love Raspberries!!!

Raw Choc-Hazelnut Raspberry Tart before Chocolate Mousse Topping

All done now
And for about 5 years I've been wanting to make a German Stollen using a Gluten Free recipe
A Gluten Free recipe over here
and it was worth the wait!!!

That did me in for a few weeks so it was all easy meals from then on!!!

Bon Appetie......Dzintra

Welcome To My World

Hello, my name is Dzintra Ingrid ... have been known as Ingrid and since our Sea Change I have started to use Dzintra ... pronounced without the D ... (but still known as Ingrid, I know, it's confusing ...)

Welcome to my world ... a journal of our Sea Change ... Mum to three wonderful children ... bringing up a daughter with a disability and seeing life through her eyes ... being a new Nanna ... photos ... inspiring quotes ... taking on a cookery course ... the odd recipe ... and trying to get some stitching done amongst all this ...
