Cook Up With Vicki No 3...and a new Book!!!

I'm so pleased to be able to do these Cook-Ups with Vicki...

but no sooner have I done one and then the next Donna Hay magazine comes out!!!

It's the time of year I think when things scream along and then all of a sudden it's December!!!

From the August/September issue I have chosen...

Lemon, Thyme and White Wine Chicken...yummy!!!

For any of you reading who are not familiar with our Cook-Ups...

each issue Vicki and I choose a recipe, cook it and blog it!!!

Easy...anyone out there who would like to participate with us...

just do what we are doing...

choose a recipe from the current mag and blog it...

and then tell us all about it!!!

First up...the most important part (according to Hubby)...the Wine chosen by him...

the glasses...

the table...

Chicken, onion, lemon, garlic and thyme in pot...

Prepare a salad while chicken is in the oven...

and voila...here 'tis!!!

All ready to enjoy!!!

This was a really easy and quick recipe to do...nice and tasty too!!!

If you would like the recipe...go over here to my other blog My Dolce Vita

Yesterday my dear Hubby came home with a surprise for me...

this wonderful cookbook...Maggie's Harvest by Maggie Beer...

A lot of Aussies would know Maggie for her wonderful pates...verjuice...pastes and a whole range of goods...

Up until a couple of weeks ago she was on the television in a programme The Cook and the Chef alongside Simon Bryant...
Maggie has been living in the well known wine region of the Barossa Valley in South Australia since the 1970's...

And along with this magnificent book came this bag...

both the book and the bag have embroidery on them...

I was soooo over the moon at this most unexpected gift!!!

Don't know why but this photo downloaded sideways...

And here they are together...the book and the bag!!!

And just to finish off in Maggie's words...

'My philosophy is simple - to cook from the heart,

and to live in harmony with the seasons.

Overflowing with memories, musings and recipes,

this book is a personal collection of

my most treasured food experiences.'

It can't get much better than that Maggie!!!

The chicken looks delicious and what a magnificent gift from your husband. I could just get lost in the pages of a crisp, new cookbook!

Got to love Maggie and her verjuice! It is a very handy ingredient though.

Your chicken dish looks devine, and hubby made a good choice with the wine. :)

Oh that looks delicious! You have such a perfect touch with presentation too! These cook-ups are so much fun!

A side-note on Donna Hay-
Last year I found out that one of my bushes (that had strange looking fruits. I have never seen anything like them before)...turned out to be Quince! So I wrote to Donna Hay and asked if she had any recipes for Quince. To my great surprise, she wrote back and sent me the numbers for back issues! And now, in the current issue, on pages 63-64 is a lovely recipe for quince paste... and just in time for my Quince to be picked! (wouldn't I love to think she might have put it in there just for me! LOL)

And what a lucky girl to have such a sweet hubby! What a gorgeous book and bag! xx Vicki

OMG Dzintra! HOW ARE YOU? First of all, I love a chicken stew with all these ingredients...have you ever added white wine to this mix? TRY IT! I had been thinking about you lately with all the dust storms happening in Australia...are you near that? Thank you for coming over! Take care and have a wonderful dinner. Anita

Hello again! Yes, you must marinade the chicken in the white wine with olive oil and the rest of the ingredients and get ready to say Bon Appétit! Have fun, and I am glad to hear that the red dust wasn't too much of a menace chez toi! Fondly, ANita

I bet that tasted as good as it looks. I have Maggie's book too but have yet to cook out of it. Unforgiveable I know. I did enjoy the show immensley. Simon was always a good counterbalance to Maggie. The embroidered cover is incredible. Ann :)

OT Twi-Talk...

You asked about the rumour that Kristen was moving to Sidney, to be closer to her mother.

Nope... :-) Kristen's mom/dad/bro live in LA, where she does. So K. wouldn't be moving to Oz, to be closer to her mom.

I think her mom is from Oz originally, but lives in LA, US.

That chicken dish looks lovely! Got to love Donna :) And what a great gift from your hubby and I love the matching bag too!

Good morning (at least on my half of the planet!),

Excellent! By this time, you are probably eating the tender, luscious chicken! Yes, white wine both in the marinade and in a glass compliment this dish! I have another version for turkey that is killer good. You marinate the poultry in Bragg's apple cider vinegar, olive oil, with lots of garlic, onion and herbs of your choice. Throw in some olives and capers. Then, roast the thing slowly (add a bit of water. It will fall off the bone on it's own, doing a sort of "strip-tease"! You won't even need a knife. Bon apetit!!!! Let me know how it goes. Anita
